Quai Saint-Vincent vu depuis le quai Pierre-Scize
Le Grenier d'abondance a été construit entre 1722 et 1728 par l'architecte Claude Bertaud de la Vaure pour conserver le blé nécessaire à l'alimentation annuelle des quelque cent vingt mille Lyonnais de l'époque ; en théorie, sa capacité totale dépassait seize mille tonnes. Après l'édit instituant la libre circulation des grains (1763), le bâtiment est rapidement affecté à des usages militaires jusqu'en 1987. La Direction régionale des affaires culturelles de Rhône-Alpes s'installe alors dans les locaux. -
