Pendant les combats de la Libération de Lyon, des éléments des S.A.S. (Special Air Service) tirent par les fenêtres de l'hôtel de ville. Les S.A.S., parmi lesquels figurent des combattants de la France libre, sont composés de parachutistes spécialisés dont la mission est d'opérer derrière des lignes ennemies.
